Finding Room to Stash the Masses Down the Rabbit Hole

All Images via Gizmag

Urbanisation is proceeding at full speed in the third world, as the growing mass of fertile persons swarm to population centres for work and meaning. "Where to put these swelling crowds of bodies?" ask the functionaries of third world countries. For a group of Mexican architects, the answer is clear: Put them down the rabbit hole.
This ambitious "Earthscraper" concept from BNKR Aquitectura seeks to address several problems faced by Mexico City - a growing population, the lack of new plots for construction, the need to conserve historic buildings and height restrictions on new structures. "The historic center of Mexico City is in desperate need for a pragmatic make-over," says BNKR. The solution - build an inverted pyramid underneath the main plaza at the heart of the city _Gizmag

A kind of reversal of the historical Aztec pyramid, the Earthscraper would aim to preserve the visual aesthetic of the historic city square whilst also retaining the public space, commonly used year round for events such as concerts, political gatherings, open-air exhibitions and cultural celebrations. The 775,000 square meter design is capped with a glass "roof" and habitable spaces are positioned around the central void, allowing natural light to filter down to even the lowest of levels. _Gizmag

The first ten stories would offer a tourist attraction, with all floors displaying Aztec and Mayan artifacts in a pre-Columbian museum. The design sees the next ten stories filled with retail shops and domestic housing, whilst the deepest levels offer 35 stories of office space. _Gizmag
It all sounds rather idealistic, if not utopian. More realistically, if such a hole were dug, it would be used as a high security prison for Mexico's most violent drug gangs and political insurgents. If you dig it, they will come.

Northward Flow of Human Substrate: Bringing Mexican Drug Massacres to the US and Canada via Weak Border Control a la Obama

The bloody violence and breakdown in social order in modern Mexico is incomprehensible -- unimaginable -- to people living in the developed world.
Nearly 35,000 people have been killed in Mexico's drug-related violence since the end of 2006, when President Felipe Calderon ordered a military-led crackdown on the country's drug cartels. _VOANews
Thousands of Mexicans marched against the violence in Mexican cities recently, but President Calderon may have given up. Mexican media certainly seems to be doing its best to ignore the underlying reality driving the organised violence.

The best place to find news about what is going on in Mexico -- and what is likely to come to Canada and the US unless stronger US border security is enforced -- is the Spanish language blog, the Narco Blog.
While much of Mexico's mainstream media, especially television stations and local newspapers, has shied away from covering killings and naming the cartels involved, the narco blog and its anonymous curator, publish graphic details of spiraling violence.

"Individuals journalists are doing the best they can, but in general I don't think the media has done a fair job in covering drug violence," says Lucila Vargas, a professor of journalism at the University of North Carolina who studies Mexico's media landscape. "The media in Mexico are commercial enterprises and their first concern is with the bottom line," she told Al Jazeera.

Like most large scale industries in Mexico, the media - particularly television stations - are highly concentrated in a few hands. Mexicans are more likely to own a television set than to have access to running water but two TV stations - Televisa and TV Azteca - control 94 per cent of television entertainment content, according to the Mexican Right to Information Association.

While experts and average people criticise the mainstream press, there is clearly an appetite for the narco blog's coverage. _aljazeera

The strongest, most violent gangs, are led by former Mexican military officers and elite troops. There are indications that elements of the Mexican government and military are cooperating with these "quasi-military" gangs, for their own self-preservation, profit, and continued political power. Such bottom-to-top corruption may be common among the most impoverished nations of Africa, Asia, and Latin America. But Mexico is considered an emerging nation, with a relatively prosperous per capita GDP, by global standards. Its relatively high GDP plus its proximity to wealthy Anglo North America, leads most observers to expect more from Mexico than outright bloody anarchy. And the anarchy is becoming more firmly entrenched with every passing day:
Over 28,000 Mexicans have been killed, with bloody gang wars breaking out throughout the country and unprecedented violence and terror affecting the lives of ordinary citizens. And although some drug kingpins have been taken off the playing field and significant drug shipments and weapon arsenals have been seized, it is difficult to claim any battles truly won. In fact, Mexico’s drug gangs have become more firmly entrenched in the organized crime world, with much of their income coming from other illegal activities, such as extortion, kidnapping, smuggling, counterfeiting and human trafficking.

...President Calderón and other government officials “lack the political will” to attack this aspect of organized crime. Furthermore, “no key individual or group within the country’s political elite is willing to shake up the bee’s nest” and “go all the way to the highest political and economic levels” of Mexican society to put a stop to the illegal money flow.

Permeating the economy
Just how much money from organized crime is circulating in Mexico’s economy? According to Piñeyro, estimates range from $25 billion to $35 billion introduced into the Mexican economy annually. He specified that this money flows into the country’s legal formal sectors, as well as informal sectors (mostly small-scale economic activities not registered with the Treasury Department that make up a significant portion of the Mexican economy) and in criminal activities.

According to Samuel González Ruíz, who once served as Mexico’s chief of Prosecutors against Organized Crime and is now a security analyst and law professor at Mexico’s National Autonomous University, the situation is out of control, with dirty money in many economic sectors—far beyond those traditionally infiltrated by organized crime, such as construction, real estate and stolen vehicles. _Borderland
Perhaps close to 10% of Mexico's economy comes from violent drug gang activity. But the actual influence of these marauding, quasi-military gangs is far greater than their economic impact. They are making large areas of Mexico unlivable for civilised persons.

Multiple massacres in the same location, the unearthing of mass graves, the use of sledge hammers as weapons of execution, presumably to save the cost of bullets, and the routine use of "payback" murders of civilian workers (including women and children) by rival gangs --- points to a widespread creeping horror permeating life not just in borderland cities, but into the heart of Mexico. Even drug rehab centres in Mexico are evolving into foci of drug gang terror and murder.

US President Obama's response to all of this is to order US Border Patrol agents not to enforce border laws, and to go on a legal offensive against the US state of Arizona -- which is lawfully attempting to enforce on-the-books US laws against illegal immigration.

Some have accused Mexican President Calderon of being in league with the strongest and most militarised drug gangs, and others have accused US President Obama of passively promoting illegal immigration and lax enforcement of US border controls and voting laws, in order to increase votes for his political coalition and party.

It is clear that the current US government is not taking the threat seriously, and is placing its citizens in an increasingly vulnerable posture with regard to the northward creeping lawlessness, corruption, and bloody violence.

What is the answer? The problem has gone far beyond drug trafficking into kidnapping, robbing and massacre of travelers on cross-country buses, and the typical activities of organised crime -- gambling, prostitution, extortion, sophisticated armed robberies, political corruption etc. Any solution must take all of that into account, along with the ever-present threat of allowing the importing of global terrorism along with narco-terrorism along southern US borders.

If Americans have better legal methods of "getting high," they are less likely to seek out the products of illegal gangs and smugglers -- thus cutting off the profits of drug gangs at the hips. If you want to cut the profits off at the neck, you will need to enforce border security as if it were a matter of national security -- which it is.

Canada's future security depends upon the will of the US government to enforce its own security concerns. If the US fails, both Canadians and Americans will ultimately suffer.
A 2010 analysis of drug war coverage from the Fundacion MEPI, and investigate journalism center, found that regional newspapers in Mexico are failing to report most execution style killings linked to cartels. Journalists interviewed for the study said threats, bribes and other forms of pressure influenced their decisions not to cover killings or name the suspected cartels involved.

"Organised crime members have tried to bribe or influence traditional media [and] that is the importance of social media," says Raul Trejo Delabre, an independent media analyst in Mexico City.

"Thirty three million Mexicans use the Internet everyday," he told Al Jazeera, adding that average people use Twitter, Facebook and cellphone text messages to warn their friends about shoot-outs in the neighbourhood. The blog gets at least three million hits per week, the anonymous author told Associated Press in 2010 and the stats are likely higher now.

Regardless of the role of citizen journalism in keeping people informed or the journalistic ethics behind drug war coverage guidelines, Lucila Vargas doesn't think the policy will make much of a dent in the violence engulfing Mexico. "Journalism is only part of the popular culture landscape, which includes film, music and TV programmes and all of these have been glorifying the violence," she told Al Jazeera. _aljazeera

Mexico may be a lost cause. The US and Canada can be saved, if their governments realise that their nations are under attack in an undeclared war which presents a far greater threat than an overt war, due to its ongoing ability to kill and conquer from a place of media cover and political protection.

Coming Anarchy, Mexico and the Resurrection of the Vigilante

The recent explosion of violent lawlessness in Mexico has raised alarms on both sides of the Mexican:US border. As far away as Ireland, people are amazed that as many Mexicans were killed in a single Mexican city [Ciudad Juarez] in one year, as were killed in all of Northern Ireland during the 30 years of the Troubles.

No wonder vigilante groups are springing up in Mexico -- and in the US along the Mexican border -- to try to deal with the rampant violence. It is clear that the Mexican government is unable to handle the epidemic of violence, and the Obama administration is unwilling to enforce border security or ramp up interdiction of illegals -- even violent gang members.

Obama's border policies amount to a de facto importation of Mexican violence into US border states. This vast Obama folly makes the creation of vigilantes on the US side a virtual certainty -- which may be what Obama is hoping for. Unfortunately for Obama, he has lost half of his cheering section in the US Congress, and will probably not be able to leverage any contrived provocation to force the passage of amnesty legislation for illegal migrants.

Vigilance committees were an important part of the taming of the American West -- and in fact are necessary wherever human populations move out beyond the reach of official law enforcement. In the case of Mexico, the lure of easy money from smuggling drugs, smuggling humans, kidnapping, robbery, extortion, etc has become the dominant meme among many Mexicans looking to improve their prospects in a land where prospects are typically few and far between. When violence explodes in this way so that official agencies are unable to cope, the people will often take justice into their own hands.

Many outside analysts feel that Mexico should be a rich country. But crime, chaos, corruption, culture, and large numbers of low IQ citizens, makes it difficult for the nation to maintain enough order to allow a normal market culture to emerge and integrate with the nether parts of the country. As long as the drug cartels are capable of assassinating even the best guarded of Mexico's anti-drug enforcers, chaos has a seat at the table.

As the US plays host to a growing Mexican population -- both criminal and conventional -- individual citizens of all ethnicities and subcultures will have to decide whether they wish for Mexican anarchy to establish a permanent foothold inside the US.

The Obama administration apparently wishes it to happen. But the US is not yet a dictatorship, the citizens still have a voice of sorts. And state governments still have some power under the US Constitution, although in the case of California, the state stands with Obama.

Mexico's coming anarchy could easily spread northward. What is your choice, America?

Blacks Have High Crime Rates, What About Hispanics?
Blacks Have High Crime Rates, What About Hispanics?

AmericanConservative
In a recent American Conservative article, Ron Unz argues that hispanics should not be mentally linked with blacks as a "high-crime minority." Instead, Unz suggests that there is very little difference in crime rates between "whites" and "hispanics." Why do I place "whites" and "hispanics" in quotes? Because when it comes to ethnicity, classification is everything. US government sources for crime statistics are notoriously averse to providing valid ethnic data on hispanic crime. The FBI Uniform Crime Report, for example often conflates the categories "white" and "hispanic" together, making ethnic comparisons for such crime rates impossible.

Unz assumes that he solves this problem by using incarceration statistics from the Bureau of Justice (BJS). Unz assures us that correctional officials keep scrupulous records of inmate ethnicity, and provide the aggregate data annually through the Bureau of Justice Statistics.

Unfortunately, even the BJS is getting away from a scrupulous ethnic accounting of prisoners -- forcing Unz to use 2005 statistics instead of the more recent 2008 statistics, which fail to provide the ethnic data. Unz proceeds to look at age-adjusted crime data which seems to show that (age-adjusted) hispanic crime rates are much less elevated above white crime rates than popularly believed -- and in some cases hispanic crime rates are lower than white crime rates when adjusted for age. Counter-intuitive? Certainly.
A reasonable question arises: are all of these crime rates actual, or might they be statistical artifacts produced by widespread underreporting of crime in heavily Hispanic areas? We cannot absolutely eliminate this possibility, but for homicides the reporting rate is always close to 100 percent, and since for all these cities the homicide and other serious crime rates tend to follow very similar patterns, there is no evidence that any of these racial patterns were warped by substantial underreporting.

...The evidence presented here powerfully refutes the widespread popular belief that America’s Hispanics have high crime rates. Instead, their criminality seems to fall near the center of the white national distribution, being somewhat higher than white New Englanders but somewhat lower than white Southerners. Taken as a whole, the mass of statistical evidence constitutes strong support for the “null hypothesis,” namely that Hispanics have approximately the same crime rates as whites of the same age. _Unz
Unz makes an interesting argument. But can his data be trusted? Al Fin statisticians recommend caution when accepting BJS numbers at face value -- particularly when government bureaucracies are decades deep within an unscrupulous political correctness. Misclassification errors are common in the FBI database, and it is not unreasonable to expect misclassification to be involved in the BJS database of incarcerations.

US Census numbers provide another likely source of error, when calculating crime rates by ethnicity -- as anyone who has had any dealings with the Bureau of Census would know. In addition, the likely under-reporting of crime from hispanic neighborhoods is another reason to doubt the numbers. Then there is the often-huge discrepancy between crime and incarceration. As long as a Mexican immigrant can easily flee across the border to escape prosecution, he will be less likely to appear on any US incarceration rolls.

There are other reasons to hold Unz' findings in doubt with regard to the underlying statistics. Unz sometimes refers to crime rates and sometimes to incarceration rates. His numbers come from a variety of sources and are treated as equally reliable. And since "hispanic" is a linguistic classification rather than an ethnic one, the entire basis of comparison teeters ludicrously on the brink of unreliability.

It may be impossible to clean up the problems in Unz' analysis. Government agencies are making it ever harder to compare characteristics of different population groups -- whether by IQ, crime, or any other pertinent variable.

But in the end, it is possible to hold onto some hope from Unz' blatant advocacy journalism. "Hispanics" are the fastest growing population group in the US. Although average IQ among "hispanics" is significantly lower than among more European derived populations, if crime rates are not significantly higher then future US societies may have reason to hope.

In other words, you should not expect to see many rocket scientists or Nobel Prize winners among US "hispanic" groups. But if you can expect to also see relatively low crime rates among the same groups, then all is not lost.

2010 - - Good-Bye: USA Hello: Split America

This is the way the US is supposed to split around the year 2010. As you can see, every part of the former USA will soon be under the control of other nations -- including Mexico, Canada, the EU, Russia, China, and perhaps Japan. Oddly, Cuba did not end up with southern Florida, which by all rights it should possess after such a split.

This remarkable prediction is being made by a former KGB analyst, and current professor and dean of Russian Foreign Ministry's academy for foreign diplomats. It is not the first prediction of a violent split-up of various parts of the US, nor will it be the last. It is only remarkable due to the seriousness with which it is being taken inside Russia.
Mr. Panarin posits, in brief, that mass immigration, economic decline, and moral degradation will trigger a civil war next fall and the collapse of the dollar. Around the end of June 2010, or early July, he says, the U.S. will break into six pieces -- with Alaska reverting to Russian control.

In addition to increasing coverage in state media, which are tightly controlled by the Kremlin, Mr. Panarin's ideas are now being widely discussed among local experts. He presented his theory at a recent roundtable discussion at the Foreign Ministry. The country's top international relations school has hosted him as a keynote speaker. During an appearance on the state TV channel Rossiya, the station cut between his comments and TV footage of lines at soup kitchens and crowds of homeless people in the U.S. The professor has also been featured on the Kremlin's English-language propaganda channel, Russia Today.

Mr. Panarin's apocalyptic vision "reflects a very pronounced degree of anti-Americanism in Russia today," says Vladimir Pozner, a prominent TV journalist in Russia. "It's much stronger than it was in the Soviet Union."

...The professor says he's convinced that people are taking his theory more seriously. People like him have forecast similar cataclysms before, he says, and been right. He cites French political scientist Emmanuel Todd. Mr. Todd is famous for having rightly forecast the demise of the Soviet Union -- 15 years beforehand. "When he forecast the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1976, people laughed at him," says Prof. Panarin. _WSJ
A lot of the details of the coming split remain to be worked out. For example, what happens to US military bases, ships, planes, submarines, and other hardware? What would make a sane and intelligent person believe that such a catastrophic dissolution of the world's largest economy would leave the rest of the world in any position to step in and "pick up the pieces?"

I would certainly not deny the possiblity of such a breakup. It would occur over a much longer time span than one and a half years, and would involve a great deal more collateral damage among the other great and small powers of the world than Panarin appears to comprehend.

The divisions suggested by Panarin appear unlikely in the extreme. A more likely graphic of a post-breakup USA can be found at this PDF document, Civil War II. In other words, a breakup along ethnic lines appears more realistic than Panarin's scenario, probably occurring in connection with a worldwide violent conflagration that results in the breakup of most other large nations and unions of nations, including China, Russia, the EU, and probably Mexico and other Latin American nations.

As long as the world-scale violence leaves significant areas of reasonably intact areas of production and education in advanced nations, the resulting regional states, or even city-states would likely re-establish trade routes and maintain as large a "zone of order" as they could manage under the circumstances. Piracy and lawlessness would be severe across most of the world, of course. Any recent graduates of North American university social science departments would likely find themselves enslaved or killed, unless they were lucky enough to find themselves inside a surviving enclave of much maligned western civilisation. Feminists would probably be fed to gasification plants to provide biofuels, a la Oynklent Green [OTC:OYNK].

The world has never been so broadly civilised as it is today. And, of course, it cannot last. The internal schisms within civilisation are simply too great. But there are some regions that are more likely to survive relatively intact than others. I am happy to report that there is still time for most of you to locate some of these regions, and to learn how to make yourself useful and competent enough to survive. It's your time. Don't waste it.

The US Needs A Better Trained and Educated Immigrant

The Center for Immigration Studies has published a new profile on recent immigrants to the US. (thanks to Audacious Epigone) The profile presents important information on immigrants to the US and foreign-born residents residing within the US.
This Backgrounder provides a detailed picture of the number and socio-economic status of the nation’s immigrant or foreign-born population, both legal and illegal. The data was collected by the Census Bureau in March 2007.
  • Among the report’s findings:
  • The nation’s immigrant population (legal and illegal) reached a record of 37.9 million in 2007
  • Immigrants account for one in eight U.S. residents, the highest level in 80 years. In 1970 it was one in 21; in 1980 it was one in 16; and in 1990 it was one in 13
  • Overall, nearly one in three immigrants is an illegal alien. Half of Mexican and Central American immigrants and one-third of South American immigrants are illegal
  • Since 2000, 10.3 million immigrants have arrived — the highest seven-year period of immigration in U.S. history. More than half of post-2000 arrivals (5.6 million) are estimated to be illegal aliens.
  • The largest increases in immigrants were in California, Florida, Texas, New Jersey, Illinois, Arizona, Virginia, Maryland, Washington, Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
  • Of adult immigrants, 31 percent have not completed high school, compared to 8 percent of natives. Since 2000, immigration increased the number of workers without a high school diploma by 14 percent, and all other workers by 3 percent.
  • The share of immigrants and natives who are college graduates is about the same. Immigrants were once much more likely than natives to be college graduates.
  • The proportion of immigrant-headed households using at least one major welfare program is 33 percent, compared to 19 percent for native households.
  • The poverty rate for immigrants and their U.S.-born children (under 18) is 17 percent, nearly 50 percent higher than the rate for natives and their children.
  • 34 percent of immigrants lack health insurance, compared to 13 percent of natives. Immigrants and their U.S.-born children account for 71 percent of the increase in the uninsured since 1989.
  • Immigrants make significant progress over time. But even those who have been here for 20 years are more likely to be in poverty, lack insurance, or use welfare than are natives.
  • The primary reason for the high rates of immigrant poverty, lack of health insurance, and welfare use is their low education levels, not their legal status or an unwillingness to work.
  • Of immigrant households, 82 percent have at least one worker compared to 73 percent of native households.
  • There is a worker present in 78 percent of immigrant households using at least one welfare program.
  • Immigration accounts for virtually all of the national increase in public school enrollment over the last two decades. In 2007, there were 10.8 million school-age children from immigrant families in the United States.
  • Immigrants and natives have similar rates of entrepreneurship — 13 percent of natives and 11 percent of immigrants are self-employed.
  • Recent immigration has had no significant impact on the nation’s age structure. Without the 10.3 million post-2000 immigrants, the average age in America would be virtually unchanged at 36.5 years.

Audacious Epigone created a "merit index" for countries of origin, based upon the status and performance of immigrants on six factors:
Using one or more welfare programs -- (.67)
Self-employed -- .55
Without health insurance -- (.53)
Less than a high school education -- (.51)
Bachelor's and beyond -- .60
In poverty -- (.49)

Based on those six factors, I've created a simple index to rate the top 25 nations from which our foreign-born population originates. The scores correlate with estimated IQ at .57, and .65 with India removed.

The non-Hispanic native white performance is set at 100. I gave equal weight to each of the factors, which probably inflates the numbers on education and underappreciates welfare use (or a lack thereof). Nonetheless, the rankings certainly have face validity:

Immigrants who are relatively uneducated and unskilled add tremendously to poverty rates and income disparity in the US. It is clear that merely legalising unskilled illegal immigrants will not solve the problem.

Instead, it is clear that the US should immediately take steps to reduce the accelerating inflow of unskilled and uneducated persons (wherever they may be from) and streamlining the process of legal acceptance of skilled, educated, and self-sufficient immigrants.

The disastrous performance of the US INS over the past few decades is a mere reflection of the decay in bureaucratic performance across the board in the US federal government. A simple reading of the CIS report, and a few moments reflection, should be enough to persuade intelligent readers that the US cannot afford this level of bureaucratic ineptitude to continue into the future.

Current hiring of US government workers is done via nepotism--racial, gender, and other social favoritism unrelated to worker competence. Since President Jimmy Carter outlawed the very useful testing procedures which helped assure competence in government workers, the performance of the US bureaucracy has crashed--with no conception within government circles as to what should be done to reverse the trend.

In the meantime, the US continues to fill with uneducated, unskilled, virtually untrainable populations with higher crime rates, who are thoroughly unprepared and unsuited for a high technological future. The welfare and criminal justice burden this adds to a thoroughly indebted government economy makes things much harder on the producing segment of society--those capable of reading and understanding such reports.

These trends are unsustainable over the long term. Perhaps North Americans (since Canada shares many of the same problems to a lesser extent) can take some comfort in knowing that Europe's demographic problems are made much worse by the violent Islamist nature of much of the immigration there. In addition, Europe has no history of large-scale assimilation of culturally diverse populations to match North America's history of assimilation.

Illegal Immigration: Reconquista!

Twelve million and counting? A massive influx of uneducated economic immigrants demanding full rights of citizenship without even a nod to legal compliance? Demanding it--seizing it in a quasi-larcenous yet unyielding grip--because they can? Is this the reconquista of North America? Tell me it is not so, amigo.

Look at the countries that produced these migrants. Look at their home societies. Is there anything in the source cultures of these illegals that suggests that they have learned to create a prosperous middle class civil society on their own? Could they create a North America as it is, on their own? Of course not. They come to North America because of what was already created here, by people of entirely different cultural backgrounds. The cultural background is of vital importance to the ability to create a working and prosperous civil society.

If the illegals were willing to watch and learn, had the patience to adopt the successful features of the North American culture--were willing to assimilate--there might be hope for them. But the faces of these immigrants are the faces of impatient demands for what they have not earned. They want the prosperity of North America--but they want it on their terms. It is an impossibility that they cannot comprehend, because they are unprepared, uneducated, unassimilated.

No one can doubt the ability of the illegal immigration movement to mass large and passionate crowds of protest. It is a movement full of its own importance, manned by minions of healthy marchers displaying vacuous, self-satisfied smiles of triumph. "I am carwash-hear me roar! I am grasscut, give me more! I am parts assembler, kiss the floor?"

This political movement is not a movement of economic accomplishment. It is a movement of economic parasitism, leaching off an already prospering society, performing many functions that robots will certainly do better, before long.

This is a movement--a massive movement--of social protest, backed up by twelve million illegals, and the threat of hundreds of millions more. This is not a threat of prosperity, it is a threat of destruction. It is a demand with a knife at the throat.

The fact that the illegals would cut their own prosperity out from under themselves if they were to get what they demand--that they themselves would be swamped by further and vaster human waves in the future--is beyond their own capacity to envision. The "reforms" they demand at gunpoint are actually terms of unconditional surrender which would guarantee the third-world-ification of North America--just as Europe is being third-world-ified by its welfare dependent muslim influx.

Civilisation has always had to fight against decay. When civilisation loses the will to fight--when civilisation is intimidated by the mere numbers of those who could not maintain civilisation on their own--civilisation falls. For every illegal in North America, there are hundreds more illegals watching for the opportunity to jump in.

Mexico is a wealthy country in comparison to most of the world. If Mexicans are willing to crash the gates for a fistful of dollars, you can be sure the far more impoverished of the world are waiting for a chance to crash the Mexican's party.

Reconquista? Perhaps. But only the first in a series, and the triumphant marchers and gate crashers of today will certainly be the overthrown gatekeepers of tomorrow.
