25 Most Dangerous Neighborhoods: Young and Black?

Here are the US' 25 most dangerous neighborhoods -- the mean streets. The website provides a streetmap showing the location of the neighborhood within the city. A link is provided which gives much more information about the high-crime neighborhoods -- including demographic information. The underlying data comes from neighborhoodscout.com. For a neighborhood to have high crime rates in the US, it will contain a high (over 50%) proportion of blacks and/or hispanics, and an atypically high proportion of residents under 30 years of age. The problem is complex and multi-variate, but age and ethnicity play key parts in producing high crime neighborhoods.

If your car is going to break down on the way to or from the opera, try not to get stuck in one of these neighborhoods. If you are traveling in the US from overseas, be forewarned.

Each neighborhood will have its own reasons for generating high levels of crime. A crumbling cultural infrastructure is important -- but culture is closely related to age and ethnicity.

18 of 20 of the most perpetually poverty-stricken countries in the world are located in Africa. Haiti is another one of the top 20. These countries are also hosts to some of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the world. High crime neighborhoods that are overwhelmingly young and black.

Brazil faces the same problem. European nations such as the Netherlands, the Scandinavian nations, France, and Belgium are beginning to confront the same problems, as the non-assimilating third world immigrant population grows. In fact, the new youth of Europe will soon derive mainly from the third world.

These places just need to be walled-off like in "Escape from NY." We've been trying to fix this problem for 70 years and are worse off now than we were before it started.

At the end of the day, there's no reason to assume a common citizenship or experience with the people in these places - they're members of a foreign country as far as I'm concerned. I don't care what goes on there as long as it's contained there.

what we have here is a failure to process the surroundings.
looks like an area for study. Any University students looking for a thesis?
the word footwork to dance around the submerged piles of excrement would be worthy of Shakespeare.

In Alabama there was an effort to keep crack whores from having babies, they paid women five hundred dollars to have their uterus's removed. Women that were desperate for cash had a new means available to them and never had to worry about being pregnant or having to raise a child ever again. The law was struck down as being racist or something. While the ethics of this are gray I find it far more palatable to abortion.

Bill Cosby tried to adress tis issue years back, and one of his points was the unintended consequences of many welfare laws. Like only paying for children if there was no man in the house, while I understand the intent, the unintended consequence as that poor children were then raised fatherless. Having a father in the home far outweighs being poor or uneducated when it comes to those convicted of criminal behavior.

Everyone's got their own narrative for why these places are the way they are from Bill Cosby on down. The fact is, 70 years of trying to fix the problem have produced no results. In the mean time, we've* gone to the moon, drilled deep into the earth, weathered Communism, invented the transistor, CMOS, the integrated circuit, cellular communication, GPS, ....

I don't have any ethical problems with someone voluntarily sterilizing themselves. That seems to be a highly-moral action to me rather than having a baby that is sure to be mentally handicapped.

But we murder millions of babies a year by sucking them into garbage disposals out of their mother's wombs, so this shouldn't be a problem for us.

*See above for what I mean by "we."
