One Way Out: Explosive Growth of Technology and Enterprise

Brian Wang's blog NextBigFuture is one of the best all around sources of information on disruptive technologies -- technologies that have the potential to turn the established world upside down. There is only one way to dig out from under the massive governmental mismanagement of the modern era -- and that is via disruptive technologies which will make governments unnecessary.

One of Brian's recent articles deals with "The Mach Effect."
One-G constant acceleration and deceleration space drive would mean Earth-to-moon in 4 hours, Earth to Mars in 2-5 days, Earth to Saturn in 8-9 days.

If the Mach Effect is real [mass fluctations) and behaves as theorized (with some experimental confirmation) by James Woodward and the effect scales up as expected then we can create reactionless drive. _NextBigFuture
You can imagine the disruptive effects of fast travel throughout the solar system. Of course, if such reactionless drives actually pan out, they open the door to interstellar travel in under a decade, rather than a multiple generation timespan requirement. Under such a space propulsion regime, the "limits to growth" would be nonexistent.

If there is a way out from the quagmire, it is via shocking new technologies which will free us from the oppressive stagnation of mega-governments and their ever grasping tentacles of control, taxation, and ruinous incompetence.

I agree that Brian Wang's site is, by far, the best website on the internet about coming technologies. I read it every day.

I also agree that disruptive technological innovation is the only solution to the stagnation and rigidity of statism.

Some such technologies aren't new it is just that overgovernment stops them being used. My opinion is that running the world on nuclear fission would be of a similar cost to fusion & can be done right now. That GM foods, if unresrtained by regulation, could easily feed the world & produce other products. That modular housing, could house the world at 1/4 the cost of traditional methods. There are other things like nuclear pulse rockets, the North American water & power project, automated rail, more airports & not worrying about "peak oil" which could revolutionise life & which are all possible with little or no technological innovation. The degree to which government Luddism is restraining progress is difficult to underestimate.
