Dyscalculia

Dyscalculia is a direct result of shoddy teaching methods perpetuated by an educational machine that cares more about the flow of "other people's money" than it cares about the children.

I agree that teaching methods are the way to go - but I cannot blame my teachers for not being able to understand numbers. Not being able to tie my shoes, remember my own phone number, etc., while still being able to write this. I can learn math one day and forget all about it the next day. My brain is to blaim. I'm not giving up, and I know that different teaching methods can help - but it can't "cure" me.

Thanks for your comment.

Dyscalculia is a matter of definition. Computers calculate better than any human, but there is a wide variation of calculability between different humans.

If methods and textbooks that are popular with teachers are reducing the ability of students to do math and basic arithmetic, then the methods and textbooks are to blame.

Many of the teachers themselves have relative dyscalculia--and are not really qualified to be teaching the math and science courses they are assigned to teach.

The whole system is to blame--from the teacher training institutions to the school boards to the teachers' unions to the government regulators to the elected officials who are paid to be elected so they can defend the entire corrupt and destructive system.
