Evolution of How People Spend Time Online
The internet is a potentially revolutionary technology. And yet when one looks at how the internet is used, it seems as if its primary uses are more evolutionary rather than revolutionary.
You can use the net to order a pizza, watch an entertainment video, make travel reservations for next weekend, send internet greetings cards for any occasion -- even send flowers or chocolates. But how long do we have to wait before we have genuine telepresence, including teledildonics?
The two infographics below -- the top one from 2012 and the lower one from 2010 -- provide a short time line of how people spend time online.

I am glad to see that no one is viewing porn anymore.
May I recommend our sister site: "Al Fin, You Sexy Thing!" ?
Heh! Just kidding. Only the softest of soft porn is allowed on any Al Fin blogs.
But seriously, although the statistics are obviously skewed and obscured by political correctness, it is said that the paid subscription porn sites are suffering due to the preponderance of free porn and amateur porn sites.
The web-cam style of pay-per-view porn is said to still be popular -- perhaps another good way for girls to pay for their women's studies degrees in university?
These illustrations really help in making the blog more interesting to read.

I think there may be some gaps there. Especially in the online percentage top list for countries. 90% of swedish 16-74 year olds use the internet(I'd guess the number is 99-100% at least up to 40-50). The total number for 2011 is 86% of the population uses the internet. In other words we beat out england. We're the most connected country on the planet, by capita. Unsurprising because we were the country to most aggressively build up of an internet infrastructure in the 90s.
